EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Organization: Asian American Leadership Empowerment and Development (AALEAD) is a community-based, grassroots organization with the mission of helping the children of low-income Asian immigrant and refugee families in the Washington DC, metropolitan area develop the skills and confidence to succeed in life and to contribute to their families and communities. Location: Washington, D.C.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Board of Directors

Education: An undergraduate degree is required; an advanced degree in social work or related field is preferred. However, relevant work experience is an important determining factor.

Basic Function: The Executive Director of AALEAD is responsible for providing leadership and managing all aspects of the organization, including articulating AALEAD’s vision and mission. S/he has overall responsibility for the strategic, programmatic, financial, and management operations of the organization.

Specific Responsibilities: The Executive Director will be responsible for fulfilling the following duties:

• Develop and administer all programs and operational activities of AALEAD in accordance with the 5-year strategic plan formulated by the Board of Directors.

• Assume final responsibility for effective project management, ensuring top-quality performance of established programs, outreach initiatives, and internal efforts that range from performance reviews to fiscal responsibility.

• Maintain a supportive, nurturing and open organizational culture while encouraging increased accountability, timeliness and efficiency.

• Work collaboratively with the board and staff to raise funds by building relationships with and securing additional commitments from existing funders and cultivating new funders, especially as they relate to AALEAD’s new strategic initiatives.

Experience and Qualificiation: The ideal candidate preferably should have:

• At least six to eight years of management and/or leadership experience with community-based non-profit organization(s).

• Experience with youth development programs; experience with child and family strengthening programs a plus.

• Knowledge of all operations of a non-profit, education or social services delivery organizations, preferably in a youth development environment.

• Demonstrated leadership skills, especially with committed, passionate, and youthful staff.

• Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others, including the ability to enlist the full and willing participation of all individuals and groups, including volunteers.

• Familiarity with DC and Montgomery County Asian American Youth, or non-profit community a plus. Candidates unfamiliar with the region will be considered if they have strong relevant experience elsewhere.

• Demonstrated skill and success in strategic planning, as well as execution of strategic plans.

• Proven ability to reach out collaboratively to organizations such as: schools, foundations, governments, corporations, and individuals.

• Knowledge of an Asian language is a plus and experience with Asian American community preferred.

FULL-TIME BOOKKEEPER/OFFICE MANAGER

Small DC non-profit organization is looking for a full time bookkeeper/office manager. Focus is on bookkeeping and preferred candidates should have a good knowledge of accounting.

Bookkeeping duties include the following:

- Accounts payable

- Receipts and accounts receivable

- Payroll

- Grant reporting

- Journal entries

- Assist with annual audit

- Other tasks as assigned

Office manager duties include these and related duties:

- Oversee human resources

- Maintain employee handbook

- Renew insurance

- Answer phones, greet clients, and help with everyday office tasks.

Qualifications:

- College graduate with experience in a bookkeeping/accounting capacity

ELEMENTARY AFTER-SCHOOL ACADEMIC AND ENRICHMENT COORDINATOR

The Elementary After-School Academic and Enrichment Coordinator oversees elementary after-school programming on-site and at organization headquarters. The program primarily serves low-income Asian-American students in elementary school from the ages of 5-13. Two Site Coordinators report directly to the Elementary After-School Academic and Enrichment Coordinator. The Elementary After-School Academic and Enrichment Coordinator reports to the Program Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support Site Coordinators, as well as all teachers at site.

• Assist Program Manager in managing high quality program.

• Enter data into ETO on a daily basis.

• Conduct and grade pre- and post- WRAT3 tests for all students.

• Manage and conduct outreach as required

• Recruit teachers and other staff necessary for sites

• Collect and document school report cards for all students.

• Assist Program Manager in ensuring all policies and procedures of funding agencies are being enforced.

• Assist Tutoring Program Coordinator to implement Tutoring Program.

• Manage daily operations of site.

• Keep regular communication with designated school and church staff to maintain good relationships.

• Report, via email, to Program Manager on a daily basis.

• Assist the Program Manager as needed.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree.

Relevant experience working with youth.

Good organizational skills; strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate and interact with volunteers, students, and parents.

Sensitivity to the needs of and the ability to work with refugee and immigrant children and families. Attentive to details; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

SITE COORDINATOR FOR ELEMENTARY AFTER-SCHOOL ACADEMIC AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

The Elementary School Program Site Coordinator manages Asian American LEAD’s After School Program on-site in Chinatown. The program primarily serves low-income Asian-American students in elementary school between the ages of 5-13. The program runs Monday through Friday from 2:45 – 6:15pm. The Site Coordinator reports to the Program Coordinator and Program Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support all teaching staff at site.

• Assist Program Manager in managing high quality program.

• Enter attendance and lesson data into ETO on a daily basis.

• Conduct and grade pre- and post-assessments for all students.

• Collect and organize school report cards for all students.

• Assist Program Manager in ensuring that all policies and procedures of funding agencies are enforced.

• Assist Tutoring Program Coordinator in implementing Tutoring Program.

• Manage daily operations of site.

• Maintain regular communication with designated school and site staff to maintain good relationships.

• Report, via email, to Program Manager on a daily basis.

• Assist the Program Manager as needed.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree.

Relevant experience working in youth development or education.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS

Teachers needed for after-school program in a DC elementary school. Must be able to supervise and work with a teaching assistant as well as manage a classroom of approximately 15-20 children. Other duties include lesson preparation, assisting with grant reporting, and building good relations with school staff and parents. The positions are for approximately 17 hours per week for one year, Monday – Friday 3:15-6:15 for the academic year and 9:30 to 5:30 for the summer program.

Ideal for part-time graduate student.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's in related fields

• Relevant academic and/or work experience, especially in education and youth development

• Strong organizational skills and professional ethics

• Sensitivity to the needs of refugee and immigrant children and families

• Speakers of Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Amharic are strongly encouraged to apply.

• Ability to thrive in a results-driven environment, and focus on improving academics of low-income students.
