Growing up the daughter of first generation immigrants from Pakistan, Shaima has always valued the ability to explore both cultures available to her yet is also attuned to the struggle of being able to fit into varying communities. She was able to further explore this experience by choosing to complete her undergraduate studies in Beijing, China at the University of Hertfordshire. The combination of Shaima’s love for travel and community service led her to build a volunteer service project, working with several non-profit organizations in Peru. Working with underserved youth in AALEAD has given Shaima the ability to combine her passion for serving her community and connecting with diverse communities. Shaima is grateful for the opportunity to support youth and their families through her work, first with AALEAD’s Elementary School Program, and now with AALEAD’s High School Program.
