Position Title: Mentor & Volunteer Coordinator
Type: Full-time, Exempt
Location: Based in Washington, DC with travel to Montgomery County, MD & Fairfax County, VA
Position Start: September 2026
Areas of Focus: Education, Youth Development, Mentoring
Compensation: $43,000 - $48,000 commensurate with experience and education

Position Description: The Mentor and Volunteer Coordinator will assist in executing AALEAD’s mentoring and volunteer programs. This position is part of a team committed to providing opportunities and support for youth from underserved communities. This position will report to the Mentoring and Volunteer Manager and have a hybrid schedule with some travel to DC, Arlington and Fairfax County in Virginia, and Montgomery County in Maryland.

Mentoring Program Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities: 

1) Recruitment & Onboarding (35%)

  • Support & take the lead on various recruitment efforts, with a focus on mentees and volunteers. Conduct recruitment efforts with families, at schools and community events, online, and within the community.

  • Manage participant onboarding (Mentee Interviews, Background Checks, Reference Checks, Mentor Training, Mentee Enrollment, Match Meetings, related administrative tasks) & ensure the process aligns with best practices. 

2) Monitoring, Engagement & Evaluation (40%)

  • Monitor and provide continuous one-on-one support to mentoring pairs

    • Develop & maintain professional, supportive, trusting relationships with youth, mentors & families 

    • Manage a caseload of around 30 - 60 pairs

    • Communicate effectively and support conflict resolution and mediation as needed 

  • Monitor and provide continuous one-on-one support to volunteers 

    • Connect volunteers to the appropriate staff, and track participation and feedback

  • EVENTS - Organize events and outings for mentors & mentees, including recognition activities for mentors such as special events, awards, gifts, etc. 

    • Support quarterly Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) workshop creation and curriculum development

  • TRAINING - Provide mentors and volunteers with ongoing training opportunities and support groups. 

3) Administrative Duties (25%)

  • Assist in program data management to ensure data hygiene in a timely manner, including updating data, documenting demographics, program outcome data, & interaction case notes.

  • Communicate and collaborate with other teams to collect necessary data 

  • Provide monthly/quarterly grant reporting data for the Mentoring/Volunteer Manager

  • Support at regional programmatic events and assist with additional tasks as needed

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • BA/BS or currently majoring in education, social work, liberal arts, or related field; or relevant work experience

  • Sensitivity to the needs of immigrant & low-income children and families 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (public speaking experience preferred) 

  • Organized and attentive to details 

  • Time management and ability to multitask

  • Ability to work independently and in teams

  • Direct experience working with youth and families or teaching (ability to navigate difficult conversations and topics with adults and youth)

  • Ability to work throughout the week with consistent flexibility to work weekends and evenings and occasional holidays 

  • Fluency in an Asian language is preferred

  • Reliable and consistent transportation required
