Youth Council Fellows Turn Research Into Action

AALEAD Youth Council Fellows demonstrated the power of youth leadership through community engagement, advocacy, and action. As part of their ongoing work, Youth Council Fellows have been researching health disparities affecting immigrant communities in DC and identifying ways to create meaningful change.

Fellows recently tabled at the Asian Festival on Main in Old Town Fairfax City, where they connected with community members, raised awareness about AALEAD's mission and the research they have been conducting, and led a successful blind box fundraiser that raised more than $800.

Funds raised through the fundraiser will support organizations such as the HOYA Clinic, which provides free, community-based medical care. The Fellows also presented their findings to the AALEAD Board of Directors and had the opportunity to network with board members while sharing their research and recommendations.

By turning research into action, Youth Council Fellows are helping expand access to healthcare while building their skills as advocates, organizers, and change-makers.
