Interns Reflection

This summer, Asian American LEAD hired four interns: Olivia Lancaster (Mentoring Program), Li Turner (Programs), Jaz Bisset (Executive), and Kelly Ji (Programs). With the end of summer, their internships came to a close, and they each reflected on their experiences with AALEAD.

Olivia Lancaster: Olivia is a rising junior at American University and is a Communication Studies major. This was Olivia’s first internship, so she was extremely grateful for the opportunity to learn so much about design, data organization, writing, event planning and the various methods to support youth. Olivia’s favorite part about interning at AALEAD was the relationships she formed with the staff and other interns, discovering the perfect balance between fun and productivity. She hopes to stay connected with the amazing work that AALEAD does in the future, potentially through volunteering one day!

Li Turner: Li is a rising senior at the University of Maryland and studies International Relations. Li supported the programs team through various projects, such as planning multiple career panels, creating social media graphics, and participating in AALEAD’s summer program. She loved being able to create meaningful relationships with the youth at the summer program and seeing them grow more confident. By interning at AALEAD, Li is now inspired to continue work within the Asian American community!

Jaz Bisset: Jaz is a rising sophomore at Syracuse University with a double major in marketing and entrepreneurship. Jaz noted that his time at AALEAD was an unforgettable experience and that he especially appreciated the community that AALEAD presented. He is grateful for the connections he made while interning here and hopes to uphold those connections with AALEAD moving forward.

Kelly Ji: Kelly Ji is a rising sophomore at Pomona College, majoring in Asian American Studies and Politics. She served as a Programs Intern at AALEAD this past summer and loved getting to know the AALEAD staff and her fellow interns – she especially enjoyed the conversations they had in the office every week. As she takes a gap semester in DC in the fall, Kelly looks forward to continuing to engage with AALEAD and seeing the great things they do in the future!
